Non-Fourier hyperbolic heat conduction in a heterogeneous sphere is investigated in this article. Except for the thermal relaxation time, which is assumed to be constant, all other material properties vary continuously within the sphere in the radial direction following a power law. Boundary conditions of the sphere are assumed to be spherically symmetric, leading to a one-dimensional heat conduction problem. The problem is solved analytically in the Laplace domain, and the final results in the time domain are obtained using numerical inversion of the Laplace transform. The transient responses of temperature and heat flux are investigated for different non-homogeneity parameters and normalized thermal relaxation constants. The current results for the specific case of a homogeneous sphere are validated by results available in the literature.  相似文献

The polarization dependence (linear dichroism) of the C 1s X-ray absorption spectrum of individual multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) is measured using scanning transmission X-ray microscopy. A very strong dichroic effect is found in the C 1s --> pi* transition, with almost complete disappearance of this transition when the electric-field (E)-vector is aligned parallel to high-quality (low-defect) MWCNTs and maximum intensity when the E-vector is orthogonal to the tube axis. In contrast, there is very little dichroism in the C 1s --> sigma* transitions. The origin of this polarization effect is explained. The magnitude of the polarization dependence is found to differ in MWCNTs synthesized by different methods (arc discharge versus chemical vapor deposition). This is ascribed to differences in densities of sp(2)-type defects. The potential for use of this signal to characterize defects in single-carbon-nanotube devices is discussed.  相似文献

The effect of pan-frying on the formation of cholesterol oxidation products (COPs) in different processed meat samples (beef patties, braised meat, and fillets of pork) was studied. Samples were pan-fried with or without addition of oil. Different unsaturated oils (olive oil, corn oil or partly hydrogenated plant oil) were used throughout the study. After extraction, seven toxicologically relevant COPs were analyzed using LC–MS. Prior to heat processing up to 6.7 mg COPs/kg extracted fat could be detected in the raw material. Neither the cholestanetriol nor 25-hydroxycholesterol, which are the most cytotoxic COPs in vitro, were detectable in any sample. Differences in the COPs contents were observed between beef (up to 16.5 mg/kg extracted fat) and pork (up to 22.2 mg/kg extracted fat) samples. In prepared samples higher COPs content was noted compared with raw samples. Generally, a certain order of COPs increase dependent on the plant oil used could be recognized: corn oil < partially hydrogenated plant oil < olive oil. It appears that short heating time, mild heating conditions, and the use of fresh and shortly stored raw materials keep COPs levels low.  相似文献

This article introduces a combined physicochemical and biological process for treatment of oil contaminated sea water. In this process, a new polymeric surfactant is successfully applied with a dosage of 0.0015 g/g of crude oil to accumulate oil spots on the sea water in a microcosm. In the next step, microbial degradation of accumulated oil spots using isolated bacteria from oil contaminated Caspian Sea water was studied. The results of a proposed process for treatment of contaminated sea water in a pilot scale, using a 1500-l microcosm with several basins at different conditions are presented.  相似文献

Our previous work has shown that topical thymosin beta 4 (Tβ4) as an adjunct to ciprofloxacin treatment reduces inflammatory mediators and inflammatory cell infiltrates (neutrophils/PMN and macrophages/MΦ) while enhancing bacterial killing and wound healing pathway activation in an experimental model of P. aeruginosa-induced keratitis. This study aimed to mechanistically examine how Tβ4 influences MΦ function in particular, leading to reduced inflammation and enhanced host defense following P. aeruginosa-induced infection of the cornea. Flow cytometry was conducted to profile the phenotype of infiltrating MΦ after infection, while generation of reactive nitrogen species and markers of efferocytosis were detected to assess functional activity. In vitro studies were performed utilizing RAW 264.7 cells to verify and extend the in vivo findings. Tβ4 treatment decreases MΦ infiltration and regulates the activation state in response to infected corneas. MΦ functional data demonstrated that the adjunctive Tβ4 treatment group significantly downregulated reactive nitrogen species (RNS) production and efferocytotic activity. In addition, the in vitro studies showed that both Tβ4 alone and adjunctive Tβ4 treatment influenced MΦ cellular function following LPS stimulation. Collectively, these data provide further evidence that adjunctive Tβ4 + ciprofloxacin treatment offers a more efficacious option for treating bacterial keratitis. Not only does the adjunctive therapy address both the infectious pathogen and corneal wound healing response, but it also influences MΦ infiltration, activation, and function, as revealed by the current study.  相似文献

In this paper, the laminar forced convection heat transfer of the water-based nanofluid inside a minichannel heat sink is studied numerically. An Eulerian two-fluid model is considered to simulate the nanofluid flow inside the triangular heat sink and the governing continuity, momentum, and energy equations for both phases are solved using the finite volume method. Comparisons of the Nusselt number predicted by the Eulerian–Eulerian model with the experimental data available in the literature demonstrate that the simulation results are in excellent agreement with the experimental data and the maximum deviation from experimental data is 5%. The results show that the heat sink with nanofluid has a better heat transfer rate in comparison with the water-cooled heat sink. Also, the heat transfer enhancement increases with an increase in Reynolds number and nanoparticle volume concentration. In addition, the friction factor increases slightly for nanofluid-cooled minichannel heat sink.  相似文献

Natural convection heat transfer within horizontal annuli has many engineering applications such as heat exchangers like fire tube heaters. In this paper numerical methods were used for the computational analysis of heat transfer from the fire tube/hot tube to the gas tube/cold tube inside the water medium using alumina nanoparticles. Because of eccentricities of both hot and cold cylinders and different diameters, the geometry is asymmetric. The mathematical model is based on two-dimensional continuity, momentum, energy, and volume fraction equations, which are solved numerically. The simulation was done for different values of particle loading, 1%, 2%, and 5%, at Rayleigh numbers 103, 104, and 105. The results show that nanoparticles enhance the heat transfer by increasing the volume concentrations of particles. It was observed that the maximum and minimum augmentation of the average Nusselt number are about 30% and 14% at the Ra = 103 and Ra = 105, respectively. Although the average Nusselt number rises by increasing the Rayleigh number, the ratio of heat transfer using nanofluid to that by pure fluid decreases. Using 5% volume fraction of alumina nanoparticles at Rayleigh number of 103 increases the heat transfer to cold tube by about 23% compared to the pure water. The effect of nanolayer formation around particles was considered in a thermal conductivity model, which shows approximately 5% increase in the Nusselt number. To verify the solution results, comparisons with previously published work on the basis of special cases are performed.  相似文献

The number of internet users and connected devices has dramatically expanded due to the recent technological boom and the benefits that the internet of things offers to ease our lives. Network scheduling, quality of service, resource allocation, and security issues are now being addressed via software-defined networking (SDN). SDN has several benefits over traditional networks, including global centralized control, managing network traffic, and separating the forwarding and control plane. The work done in this paper aims to design and implement a traffic-aware routing framework based on routing optimization presented as an integer linear programming (ILP) to improve heterogeneous traffic flows' quality of service (QoS) in a simulated SDN environment. With the knowledge that the routing problem is a nondeterministic polynomial-time-hard problem, the proposed scheme aims to decrease the computational routing time to make the ILP-based routing system more suitable for real-time processing. The simulation results illustrate that the proposed framework reduces the computational time by 23% and 49% for Abilene and Goodnet topology, respectively. Additionally, with 1000 flows in the network, the suggested scheme reduces the number of network flows that violate the QoS by 9% and 22% (with Abilene topology) and 16% and 51% (with Goodnet topology) as compared to the existing shortest path delay and sway methods, respectively.  相似文献
